April 23rd was the 400th anniversary of the death (and possibly birth) of England’s most famous playwright, William Shakespeare. In his lifetime Shakespeare wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets, many of which are still studied, watched and performed by people across the globe.
As you may have seen, Norfolk County Council’s Library and Information Service is using their annual Great Big Read as an opportunity to celebrate all things Shakespeare, encouraging people across the region to take a fresh new look at the Bard with a ‘Shakespeare Re-written’ selection of modern titles inspired by his universally popular dramas and given a new twist by their authors.
Blog hosts Litcham School have written about Shakespeare Rewritten, with Amelia sharing how she’s been using the Libraries promotion as a brilliant way to discover new books and genres. If you’ve not had a read, make sure you do here as she’s also put together a great list of titles inspired by Shakespeare’s plays.
Amelia has also taken the time to produce an amazing quiz for anyone who would like to test their knowledge of the Bard; if you’d like to put yourself to the test, you can download it here: Shakespeare Quiz
